A Japanese ivory carving of a master and an apprentice Meiji period both set on a straw mat, the carpenter holding a Tamagushi, wearing a gown showing, the workshop's name, (Yamata Shouten, shop of Yamata's), a young boy at his feet with various wood-working planes and a saw, by a wooden table with two balls of rice-cake kagami mochi stacked on it, signifying, the new year, incised to the bottom (megumi mei)
