Description:
The Fitzgerald cedar desk, circa 1848 of rectangular form with a hinged writing slope to the front enclosing four pigeon holes, standing in a simple cedar frame, with inscription to the underside of the writing slope 'R. Fitzgerald, Dabee, October 2 1848', 80 cm wide, 65 cm deep, 108 cm high. See detail on inscription on opposite page along with an image of the desk in the shearing-shed at Dabee, circa 1978. Note: This desk was used by the Fitzgerald family of Dabee, Rylstone, New South Walesin the woolshed for marking up, the wool tallies. Bales at Dabee were marked with what is probably, the oldest wool brand in New South Wales: R. Fitzgerald/Windsor.
