Early Patu Paraoa, of Classic pre-contact type; delicate in proportion and finely balanced suggesting it was created for a great orator. Seven deep concentric lineage grooves adorn the butt of the handle. Rich, aged patina. Old label affixed inscribed, 'Whalebone Mere, Ruato, Near Rua's Home'. Refer Rua Kenana Hepeipa. Height 28 cm. Width 7.5 cm.
