Rare Lovelace long case clock, c. 1730 Jacob Lovelace Exon (c1687-1755). Superb and rare oak inlaid long case clock signed on the chapter ring Jacob Lovelace Exon, the square brass dial engraved with wheat-ear border, date aperture with engraved birds and flower basket, masked faced spandrels and ringed winding holes, the five latch pillar movement of seven day duration with striking count wheel on barrel, with original brass enclosed weights and pendulum. Top of hood surmounted by ebony carving with central winged cherub. Condition report: movement in remarkable state of preservation with all original gears and pinions. Original bell stand welded, hands and all aspects of dial original including screws for spandrels. Case: with some restorations including cheeks and seat-board. It is of firm belief in spite of this that the clock and case are period correct and could have started life together. Dial fits perfectly into hood and face plate and pendulum lines up perfectly with sight aperture on door, including scuff marks on back of original trunk back board
