Description:
Giordano Robbiati, 'Martian' Atomic Espresso machine prototype, Italy c1953, the ultra rare all alloy Martian Espresso electric coffee maker demonstrates a masterful exhibition of the style of Giordano Robbiati, having developed the Atomic coffee maker Robbiati to its highest aesthetic form he applied the skills he had obtained in sand casting alloy to designing a large electric coffee machine. Whilst the 'Espresso' brewing technology of the machine dates to the turn of the 20th century the form of the machine is highly organic and has a distinctive mid-century appearance, the Martian name indicates the futuristic 1950's sci-fi style of the design, the machine is in full working order, 800 Watts and 110 Volts made for the US market. height 54.5 cm Provenance: one of four known prototypes in the world including one in the collection of Jack Grieve of Sorrentina coffee Machines as part of the Ikon Exports collection, South Australia and another in the Museum collection of Lucio del Piccolo, Italy
