Georg Jensen cutlery, Continental design, 97 pieces in total, hallmarked, Georg Jensen, Denmark sterling silver, designed in 1906 by Georg Jensen, the Continental cutlery pattern was the first major cutlery range to emerge from the fledgling silver smithy that was established two years earlier in 1904. In designing Continental, Georg Jensen was inspired by the forms of traditional and centuries old Nordic tools and implements, the lightly hammered surface enhances the design giving it. Depth and an unique beauty that is exclusive to silver. Georg Jensen, (1866-1935) founded the Georg Jensen Silversmithy in Copenhagen in 1904. Originally trained as a sculptor he realised his talent as a silversmith producing silver jewellery, hollowware and flatware that epitomised the heavily ornamented Art-Nouveau style of the early 1900s. Upon his death in 1935, the New York Times heralded him as the most significant and influential silversmith of the last 300 years
