Cased model of the four masted barque the ‘Pamir’, Built in Hamburg in 1905 until her famous end in 1957 the Pamir flew the ensigns of Germany, Finland, New Zealand and Italy. The Pamir’s New Zealand connection begins with her being seized as a prize of war by New Zealand in 1941. State of the art when she left the Bluhm and Voss shipyard in Hamburg she enjoyed a long and varied working life and was the last windjammer to carry a commercial cargo around Cape Horn in 1949.The Pamir met a sad end being wrecked in 1957 in the Azores en route from Buenos Aires to Hamburg.
