1969 Helms world trophy Award, heavy silver-plated plaque in original perspex case, the trophy engraving includes, 'Helms world trophy - Created by Paul H.Helms to Honor the Foremost Amateur Athlete on each Continent of the world, Annually, with Selections dating from 1896', there are six spaces engraved with the names of the continents and the winners from each: - Africa, Charles Asati, Kenya. [At the 1968 Summer Olympics, Charles Asatireached to the quarterfinalof 200m and was a member of Kenyan 4 x 400 m relay team, which won the surprise silver medal, with a time of 2:59.6.] Asia, Chi Cheng, Formosa [Won the bronze medal in the women’s 80-meter hurdles in the 1968 Summer Olympics] Australasia, Pam Kilborn, Australia [three world Records in Athletics during 1969] Europe, Liese Prokop, Austria [silver medal in Pentathlon at 1968 Summer Olympics] North America, bill Toomey, USA [gold medal in Decathlon at 1968 Summer Olympics] south America, Juan Bello, Peru [Swimmer at 1968 Summer Olympics] (Note: Shirley Strickland’s 1955 Helms world trophy Award was included in our April 2001 auction catalogue of her collection)
