Don Bradman’S Bat from the 1935-36 Sheffield shield Season: 'Sykes - Don Bradman Autograph' full size cricket Bat, signed 'Don Bradman/Private' in the ownership position, and also signed on reverse by the South Australian team, 12 signatures including Don Bradman, Tim wall, Frank Collins, Merv Waite & Ron Hamence. Sir Donald signed the bat for a third time in his Adelaide home in 1994, commenting that it was 'One of my favourite bats - I remember it well', the bat is in superb condition, housed in a perspex display case with engraved plaques, overall 20 x 96 cm. In April 1935 Bradman began his new career in Adelaide. Shortly afterwards, he was appointed South Australia state Captain, the South Australian team was significantly depleted, with most of the top players on the tour of South Africa. Due to Bradman’s serious illness at the end of the 1934 Ashes Tour, it had been more than a year since Bradman had played first-class cricket when he captained the side in their first Sheffield shield match against NSW 18-21 Dec.1935. His score of 117 runs steered his new side to an innings victory over his former side. In the first match against Victoria at the Mcg 1-4 January 1936 Bradman scored 357, his fifth triple century in first-class cricket. His total for the season in 9 first-class innings was 1173, with an average of 130.33, his highest score for the season being 369 at the Adelaide oval against Tasmania in the final match of the season. He had almost single-handedly taken his weakened team to shield victory in one season. A rare opportunity to acquire a match used Don Bradman bat of great significance and sentimental importance to Bradman himself.
