Impressive antique Chinese silk court robe 19th century (mid to late Qing dynasty) robe, of outstanding quality and design. Heavy blue silk heavily embroidered with three colours of gold thread. From bottom hem line up, the decoration includes, the typical cosmic landscape of mountain, sea, clouds, waves and isles of immortals. The legends of rising dragons with the breath amongst the clouds and the flying discs which symbolize thunder and rain. The dragons power to cause rain thus nourish the land, create new life, birth/fertility or healing follow. depicted in the decoration are 4 figures representing Daoist immortals referring to fertility/birth, healing, peace and good fortune. they are : * The Fan carried by Zhongli Quan (the first immortal) - birth/fertility, ability to heal * The Jade Boards - the Castanets of Cao Guojiu (the 4th immortal) - ability to purify environment. * The Flute of Han Xiangzi (the 7th immortal) - As a youth bearing icon. Devotion of the down trodden and easy wandering lifestyle. * The Basket of pomegranate/peaches of Lan Caihe (the 5th immortal) - celebrate birth or birthdays, ability to communicate with gods.
