A George III silver samovar by Francis Butty and Nicholas Dumee, London 1768. Of ovoid vase shape raised on a capstan stem from an undulating square plinth base with pierced apron, supported on ball and claw feet. Two sinuous scroll handles issue either side of the urn and the tap with ivory spigot protrudes from low on the body. The tall, close fitting cover reflects the shape of the stem and is surmounted by a flaming chalice finial. A crest of a demi-griffin rampant within a floral wreathed cartouche is engraved to the body. Height 52.5 cm
