19th century huon pine sewing box of sarcophagus form with a stepped, hinged lid, a fitted interior, a storage compartment, bun feet and the apron inscribed 'Bowden' in pencil with indistinct initials. Provenance: Family history supplied with the sewing box indicates that it was made by John Honeychurch Down, his wife was Elizabeth Booth. Their only daughter was Matilda Down who married John Bowden. Their only daughter was Adeline Matilda Bowden who gave this box to Joan Lavender Cumbr'-Stewart nee Francis
