Provenance: Manufactured by John Holloway; Collection of Major Ted Millet; Montrose Cottage and Eureka Museum of Social History Ballarat (museum cat. no. 0217241).John Holloway pushed his wheelbarrow from Melbourne to Ballarat around 1854 and started a tinsmithing business, supplying much needed everyday items for miners. The firm continued in Ballarat until recently. Major Ted Millet was Honorary Curator of Militaria and Weapons at the Museum of Victoria. He founded Montrose Cottage and Eureka Museum of Social History in Ballarat, to whom he gave his own collection and a large number of antique pieces which had been provided by Holloways. The cottage is the oldest building still standing in Ballarat (1854). The Montrose Cottage Museum was closed down several years ago, to make way for the much larger institution which is there today, and some of the collection was de-accessioned
