A large Windlass, made from milled Oregon. Unusual as normally the Miners carried the metal work with them from Goldfield to Goldfield and used suitable native timbers to make the round 'beam' to fix their ropes to. This one came from the Stawell Goldfields, and the money spent making it indicates a 'serious show' (gold workings) and that the miners were working at greater than normal depths. 266 cm long
