Description:
Eureka Rebellion: Rare Historically Significant Documents. 2 Victorian Government reports from 1867. The first from the 'Select Committee upon Mr. J.F.V. Fitzgerald's case, together with The Proceedings of the Committee, Minutes of Evidence and Appendices, 11 July 1867'. A re-assessment of the Eureka Uprising, 13 years after the 1854 incident. There had been a claim for compensation by Mr Fitzgerald (who had changed his name from Foster in order to receive an English legacy!). He had been forced to resign for political expediency, following the Eureka Uprising. Together With 'Report of the Royal Commission appointed...to enquire into and report upon applications made for authority to mine within and under certain Reserved Lands at Ballaarat, together with schedule and minutes of evidence', the document an interesting insight into mining, conditions, political machinations and society in Ballarat in the same era.
