Gold Mining/ Personal Histories: Don Sheddon papers. Don was a bit of a Legend in Ballarat and particularly within the gold Mining Community. He was a Metallurgist, assayer, and was the last of the 'Old School' of cyanide gold extractors in Ballarat. For some time he was partnered up with Bert Strange in extracting gold from mining 'Slums' using various cyanide techniques. He was also a very good Prospector. This lot is a collection of correspondence to and from Don Sheddon which is of significant interest to gold enthusiasts, comprising: 17 hand written letters discussing subjects such as a cyanide plant near Silverton N.S.W., Mining Industry jobs, wages and costs, working the slums at Steiglitz, advice on the tailings at Italian Gully and Mariners Reef, assaying, water issues, calculations and more.
