Description:
Tom Bell 'That Will Be the Day' Watercolour (46 x 34 cm) Signed. On verso; 'L.A.T. (Tom) Bell. Believed to have died in the mid-80s in Christchurch at the age of 88. Worked for Wright Stephensons for nearly 50 years, and spent most of his life in Wellington. It is understood he came from a Southland family originally. Served in both World Wars, in the Engineers in World War II. Never married. Was an accomplished artist and some of his work appears in the Wright Stephensons Centenary publication and some of his cartoons were printed in the New Zealanders' 'N.Z.E.F. Times' in Egypt during World War II. This cartoon is the original of one of his Middle East works which all bore the main heading of That Will Be the Day.'
