Arthur Victor Gregory (1867-1957 Australian), The Joseph Craig in Stormy Sea, watercolour with white. Heightening, signed and dated ’08, 42 cm x 63 cm wide oak frame with gilt slip under glass. Note: The Dunblane commenced her maiden voyage 11 June 1878 to Port Adelaide and until 1907 sailed in various trades for different owners. In April 1907, she came under the flag of J.J. Craig and was renamed Joseph Craig. She sailed in Craig’s Trans-Tasman Trades until 1914 when she was sold to Huddart Parker Ltd. She sailed for Auckland and ran aground on Rough Rock in a squall, she was towed into port by the tug Awhina, then discharged and docked. She sailed for Hokianga and was then wrecked in a squall leaving the harbour. Provenance; Ex. the Roie Grundy (Roie Davison) collection, on loan to Highwic and Alberton Houses, originally housed in ‘Torea View’ Hill St. Onehunga. Granddaughter of Capt. William Grundy of nautical fame.
