A rare Vanuatu Malekula Island mask, Nambukie, the abstract human face with broad open mouth with boars tusks issuing from the cheeks, painted in red, black and white mineral pigment and with dot motifs indicating the masks use in initiation ceremonies, the mask with an attached finely meshed smoked spider web mounted on a blackened wood staff, 76 x 15 cm; a similar example illustrated in Oceanic Art by Anthony JP Meyer, p.426
