A rare World War II collection of Diaries and Documents relating to a New Zealand World War II gunner serving with the 8th army in north Africa, 24693 Gnr M. E. Obery 6th field Regt, Rnza. Consisting of four diaries commencing during training in New Zealand and following his service through north Africa and the battle at El Almein, the diaries continue through north Africa and conclude as Obery is evacuated to New Zealand. Also includes his soldiers pay book with numerous inserts, various leave passes and tickets, newspaper clippings including one detailing his service and his account of the battle of El Alamein and fighting the German machine gunners; together with his identity discs (two), hymn book, medical discharge card and disembarkement card, a large number of personal photos of the war in north Africa showing Obery as well as brigadier Miles and numerous north African battle scenes, prisoners, etc.
