An ivory and shibayama Manju netsuke signed shibayama in inlaid mother of pearl tablet, 19th century a fine quality ivory netsuke inlaid in typical shibayama style, with mother of pearl, coral and hardstone, horn rimmed himotoshi. Diameter 3.3 cm. Note: Quail and Millet design was first popular in Tosa school paintings of the 17th century, very popular in netsuke, but was also adopted by Kakiemon in 17th century and this influenced the European porcelain factories
