A rare scrimshaw stand, circa 1880, the carved scrimshaw etched with a delicate leaf motif throughout mounted on a hardwood stand 57 cm wide, 16 cm high. It is reputed that a Seaman who worked on a whaleboat operating out of Hobart in the 1880's is thought to have crafted this elaborate ornament in his spare time. This stand has until recently been on loan at the Maritime Museum Hobart
