An Asmat war shield (Basim village, Irian Jaya) (last quarter 20th century) carved wood, natural earth pigments the leaf shaped shield having stylised relief carving depicting cuscus (tree kangaroo) tail designs, interspersed with double edged arrows, a carved head protrudes from the top, all infilled with lime, earth and charcoal coloured pigments bears a catalogue label Al 23 verso length 150 cm.
