Description:
2000 Paralympics Victory Medals, gold, silver & bronze in display case. Presented to a Paralympics Vip; a similar set was presented to the Powerhouse Museum. No other such sets are known. [The gold, silver and bronze Paralympic medals are 70 millimetres in diameter and five millimetres thick, making them slightly larger than the standard Olympic medals. Each Paralympic medal weighs 220 grams, 10 grams heavier than the Olympic medals. Designed by Stuart Devlin, the Perth Mint and the Royal Australian Mint produced all three classes of Paralympic medals. The gold for the medals is from the Orange district and is a donation from the residents and ratepayers from the Blayney, Orange and Cabonne local government areas. Silver for the medals was provided as part of the Bhp sponsorship. The bronze medals were made from melted-down 1¢ and 2¢ coins]
