Howard Staunton 'J. Jaques London' chess set, c1865. A boxwood and ebony set, heavily weighted and felted with 'Jaques London' inscribed on the base of both Kings. A very attractive set with heavily carved Steinitz-style Knights with the drilled out pupils, the set comes in an undivided, green felt lined mahogany box with original green label showing: 'The Staunton Chess-Men, the Set Is Complete, Some with Minor Damage to Be Expected with a Set This Age.
