Pear shaped Viola c1860, a very unusual 4 stringed instrument. Top made of fine spruce, ebony arched and fretted fingerboard (marked J. Pugh, Altona), ornate engraved Stauffer style headstock. Four ivory tuners, one cracked, one missing, the beautifully carved F holes are the work of a fine violin luthier. Because of the arched fingerboard, this instrument was designed to be played with a bow. In very good condition
