A Magnificent New Zealand timbers Secretaire Chest of rimu, maire, puriri, rewarewa and kauri (secondary). The fall front secretaire revealing further concealed drawers behind two sets of doors over five drawers. The craftsmanship of this piece is superb with every drawer fitted over a 'dust tray', a secretaire drawer in turn fitted with pen and ink compartments and arched letter and door compartments. This chest was made for the wealthy Gilberd family of Auckland c.1870. Height 144 cm, width 122 cm, Diameter 56 cm
