A large sterling silver salver inscribed 'To Henry King Esquire/ Commander R.N/ Ten Years Resident Magistrate of New Plymouth/ This Testimonial of Regard Is Presented with the Best Wishes of His Fellow Colonists/ Taranaki 22nd September 1852.' London 1853 hallmark. Captain King was appointed Chief Commissioner of the Plymouth Company for colonising New Zealand in 1841. Immediately upon his arrival in 1841 he was appointed Police Magistrate for New Plymouth, and then Resident Magistrate. His services to the Taranaki colony were numerous and his diplomatic handling of Maori/ European friction were noted at the time. Diameter 39 cm
