A rare Japanese ivory model of a rhinoceros by Tomotada, circa 1900, carved from a single section of ivory and finished on the surface to resemble the rough hide of the animal, the natural colour in the material used to good advantage in the overall design, particular on the shoulders and the horn of the animal, the eyes inlaid in dark horn, signed on the underside of the foot Tomotada.
