Prestigious Patu Paraoa - whale jaw bone hand club, exquisite example in extended ovoid form. Well balanced blade extended downwards through soft shouldered handle. Sized to accommodate large physique. Hourglass suspension hole. Base of handle expressive seven curved lineage lines finely carved, late 18 century. Provenance: Kennington collection. Te Karaka point, 1958, Marlborough, as inscribed. Length 37.8 cm. Width 10 cm.
