A Fine Regency parcel gilt mellowed rosewood sofa table 95 x 71 x 68 cm English, circa 1805 The casters stamped 'Cocken' Provenance: Lord middelton,Belsay Castle, Northumberland Purchased from Pelham Galleries London for 34,000 pounds in 1988 and attributed to Thomas Chippendale the Younger The attribution to Thomas Chippendale the Younger is supported by comparison with a celebrated pair of sofa tables at Stourhead delivered by this maker in 1802.All three tables share the unique design of stretcher and unusual chamfered ends.Also, the library table in the same house, also supplied by Thomas Chippendale, bears the same fine lion mask handles.
