A late 19th century patinated bronze figure of Duke Giuliano de Medici (1453-1478), after the original by Michelangelo, stamped pastille Reduction Mecanique, A. Collas Brevete, the seated figure dressed in full armour with his head averted, a club resting on his lap, stamped pastille to the reverse. Height 36 cm. History: the present work is a reduction of the larger original, which was executed in marble by Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) and is one of three statues adorning the tomb of Giuliano de Medici, Duke of Nemours, in the Medici Chapel in Florence, the reduction was cast in seven different sizes.
