A Turkish Silver Niello Cigarette Box That Reputedly Belonged to T. E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) The rounded rectangular box with central crest flanked by turkish flags with an ottoman inscription reading, Dawlat-1 Uthmaniyya, (ottoman Government and Tughra), the reverse a cornucopia vase, the internal inscription reads, Leonard Woolley to Lawrence Ned, hallmarked Van and Chetchiyan, 9.5 cm wide. Note. According to family history this item was presented to Lawrence by the Archeologist Leonard Woolley when Lawrence worked as his assistant over three seasons (1912-1914) at Carchemish, the ancient capitol of the Hittites on the Euphrates in Syria.
