An important Australian cedar and ebony strung cardtable, attributed to the Sydney workshop of Thomas shaughnessy (1779-1837), circa 1815, the rectangular top with a cross-banded and ebony inlaid border above a plain frieze with a central raised panel with ebonised beaded decoration, on a square tapering column with a conforming beaded collar with ebony inlay on a quatreform platform, raised on four outswept reeded legs with brass castors; 96 cm wide, 48 cm deep, 71 cm high; Literature This table has the identical column and quatreform base as the sofa table, plate 536, Australian Furniture, Pictorial History & Dictionary, 1788-1938, Kevin Fahy, Andrew Simpson, Casuarina Press, Sydney, 1998
