The Australian station 1859-1913: in 1859, Australia station was established as a separate command of the Royal Navy, responsible for all the waters around the Australian continent, in addition to the British and Australian colonial possessions in the south Pacific. A collection of postcards depicting British ships in Australasian waters including One written from H.M.S. Cadmus, one written from H.M.S. Gibraltar and another to H.M.S. Powerful. Scenes include H.M.S. Encounter at Thursday Island; H.M.S. Royal Arthur at Hobart; H.M.S. Drake; H.M.S. Karrakatta at Hobart; H.M.S. Encounter in Auckland harbour; H.M.S.
