An Important Bronze Cross. This was souvenired from Italy by New Zealand soldier Charles Ignatius Stapp, from the well known Stapp family of the South Island. His photo album is included in this sale (see previous Lot). The cross has at some stage likely had a Jesus figure mounted to it as it is drilled and has sustained some damage, including what appears to be a bullet graze. His album shows a bombed church at San Elia so this may well be from where the cross was souvenired
