A very significant silver plated salver ornately engraved to James Mackay, a man who almost single-handedly purchased much of New Zealand for the Government. This large silver plated salver (now missing feet and handles) is ornately hand engraved 'Presented to James Mackay Junr Esq in Acknowledgement of His great Services Rendered to the Waikato Settlers and for His Efforts to Advance, the Interests of the District 8 June 1874'. This presentation piece is mentioned in his official biographical notes in the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography.
