A Historically important Gallipoli Diary of New Zealand stretcher Bearer, private Alex Forbes Thompson, canterbury Infantry Regt, who was twice decorated, the diary is in a small church Missionary pocket book for 1915 and covers the period of 1915 containing some historic and exceptional entries and represents a unique opportunity to publish. Thomson was a devout Christian and joined the canterbury Infantry Regt. As a stretcher Bearer and embarked with the main body in October 1914. He served at Gallipoli - maintaining both his faith and daily diary entries through this trying campaign. He landed on the first day, 25th April 1915, and almost immediately began his duties tending to wounded Australians. His entry on the day is somewhat modest given that he was to be decorated for his bravery on that day. He survived the horrors of Gallipoli - the Landings, the Apex, the daisy patch, Walker's Ridge and Chunuk Bair, on occasions under heavy fire. He was decorated with both the military medal and a mention in despatches for his bravery at Gallipoli (the MM being for the landings and the mid for Chunuk Bair and the related battles). He subsequently then served in France and survived the war
