A Large William IV Flame Mahogany Cylinder Desk with fitted interior comprising drawers, pigeon holes, adjustable writing slope, pen and ink well over 6 drawers, twin pedestal base. Retailer 'H. West, Upholsterer and Furniture Dealer....' stamped to drawer. Bun handles maybe added later. Provenance: The desk was imported in the late 1800s by Fred Earl, who was a barrister and solicitor in Auckland. He founded the Auckland law firm Earl Kent which remained in existence until the early 1980s, when it was dissolved and the partners then merged with Morrison Morpeth and created Morrison Kent. The desk passed down to the senior partner of the time, F.G. Massey, son of the Prime Minister (the firm was later known as Earl Kent Massey Palmer and Hamer) and at the time of dissolution A.G.
