A Nicole Freres Interchangeable cylinder music box on 'Writing' desk Nicole Freres, serial number 46627, made in Geneva, the music box is designed to sit on top of a superbly constructed base unit; the entire piece, when assembled, appearing to be a single unit. Accompanied by the original six large music cylinders (41 cm x 9 cm) playing, in total, 28 overtures and airs each in a mandolin arrangement, the combs are on a ribbed brass plate each with 159 teeth, the base unit appears to be a large desk but, in fact, has special drawers to store the cylinders and a small pull out writing slope with original leather insert, the entire piece is decorated with pewter and brass banding with an heraldic cartouche on the top and front of the music box, the finish is ebonized wood and the front of the internal desk drawers are matching walnut purfling, each drawer beautifully dovetailed, the legs are massive carvings; all original bronze hardware. The music box measures 92 x 33 x 22 cm, the entire piece measures 117 x 97 x 62 cm.
