Jack Collins' 1954 Leading Goalkicker medal: sterling silver and enamel medal, with on front 'Leading Goalkicker medal/ AFL', and with bar on ribbon engraved '1954', in original presentation case. Jack Collins played 154 games for Footscray 1950-58. One of the best full-forwards of his era, Collins came from Yarraville. He played eight games for Victoria between 1952 and 1957 and won Footscray's best and fairest in 1951 and 1952. He was the Leagues leading goalkicker with 84 in 1954 and 74 in 1957. Collins had uncanny goal sense, was a good mark and had natural cleverness. His high marking equipped him for either of the key position posts and he also played some great football in his early years at centre half back. Coach Charlie Sutton put him there when two key defenders left the club. He was a long kick for goal and booted 7 in his club's first (and only) premiership win in 1954. Collins had missed the finals a year earlier because of a suspension late in the season and it had a serious impact on the Bulldogs' finals chances. In 1954 he was involved in a rare incident when he kicked two goals without the ball being returned to the centre. Collins was flattened by Ken Hands after he kicked the first goal then given another kick for goal. He did everything at Footscray, first as secretary then as president of the club.
