With a label on reverse that says: 'Artist-Ascribed to Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, called il Guercino (1591-1666) Subject-A Putto Date-17th century Medium-Original drawing, red chalk Provenance-Sotheby Parke Bernet (London) 23/3/78 lot 196 References-Pilkington, Gentleman's and Connoisseur's Dictionary of Painters (London 1770) Other-Almost certainly a preparatory sketch for the putto in the upper left corner of Guercino's Hagar, the Angel and Ishmael, now in Siena'.
