Brass ecclesiastical seal. This seal was brought to New Zealand by Bishop Selwyn, the first Anglican Bishop of New Zealand 1841 to 1858. Even though the seal has been made to read left to right instead of the usual right to left it was used by the Bishop as this seal matches wax impressions on official church documents held at Nelligen house, Parnell, the offices of the Diocese Secretariat. This seal was later given to a member of the vendor's family as they were manufacturing Jewellers, R. Young & Co. It is in its original leather box with the Bishop's Mitre in gold to the front. Height 7.5 cm. Width 5 cm Est. $1100
