A Good Contemporary Maori Carved Waka Huia by Patriki Lawrence, in stained southland beech and totara, the treasure box all over carved, the pataka and spiral carving on the lid tells the story of Kupe and his friend Ngate who attacked the pet octopus belonging to Maturangi, God of the sea. A head oateach end represents Kupe and Ngate. Circa 1970s. Width 29 cm. Diameter 12 cm. Height 11.5 cm.
