1975 Mercedes-Benz 280CE Chassis no. 71407222103619Engine no. 11098122022817 Registration no. Wn 033expires 01/2010'The designers felt that acceration for passing other traffic was of far greater importance than a very high speed...the acceleration figures to 62mph were impressive...only 9.9 seconds for the injected cars' - David Scott-Moncrieff, 'The Three-Pointed Star', 1979.Throughout the 1960s Mercedes-Benz produced a number of different variations upon the two-door coupe theme. They were aimed at the buyer who wanted to combine the practicality of a saloon with the more sporting line attributed to the smaller sports car - in Mercedes-Benz's case, cars such as the 230, 250 and 280SLs.The 280CE shared the floorpan, inner structure and running gear with the Type W114 sallons which had been launched in 1968 and featured a smooth all-new monococque, vertical lamp units and semi-trailing link rear suspension for better stability. The body style of the Ce was extremely pretty and the interior offered great comfort. At the time the car was no mean performer and the top speed was 125mph with excellent acceleration times. The 280CE is a modern classic and the example we offer has been well maintained and comes with its original books and history file. Previous owners include a highly respected award winning Australian artist and Olympic yachtsman Sir Bill Northam.
