1964 Triumph TR4A Irs Two-Door Roadster c100,000 km from new. One owner since 1965Chassis no. TBAEngine no. CT55457E Registration no. TR4A expires 10/2010 The Triumph Car Company had its origin in the bicycles made in the 1880s. Motorcycles were produced in 1902 & finally cars were made in 1923. In the thirties cars of a distinctively sporting aspect were produced following on the success of the Triumph Super Seven in the late 1920s, an Austin 7 competitor at the time.In 1944 the Triumph organisation was purchased by Sir John Black of the Standard Motor Company, Saloons were built post-war and in the early 1950s the Tr series sports cars were introduced as a competitor to the MGs and Morgans.Always notable for strong performance with low fuel consumption the Tr Triumphs were improved and refined with each series.First step in the TRs transition from rugged sports car to something more refined, the TR4 was introduced in 1961. Michelotti's new bodyshell brought the styling up to date while beneath the skin there were a number of changes. Rack-and-pinion steering, widened track, and an all-synchromesh gearbox contributed to improved driveability, while wind-up windows were a big advance on the TR3s sidescreens. Standard engine was the 2,138cc unit, and when equipped with the optional overdrive, the TR4 was good for almost 110 mph. This car was bought by the vendor in 1965 at the Geoghegan Brothers dealership on Parramatta road and is presented in immaculate condition after a full restoration in the 1990s. The vendor informs us the car has travelled some 100,000 km since new and the only modification from new being the implementation of Weber carburettors (original Stromberg carbs come with the car) this desirable Irs Roadster is registered and one of the nicest examples we have offered.
