1924 Indian Big Chief with Dusting Sidecar Engine no. 90 X 379Once the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world, Indian is now only remembered for its name and the wonderful bikes made in the Usa up until the 1950s. Founded in 1901, Indians had already become famous on both sides of the Atlantic before the Great War. In the 1920s Indians had a great deal of racing success and were of very advanced design. The most famous models during the 1920s were the Prince, the Scout and Police Scout and the 998cc and 1206cc sv V-twin Chief and Big Chief.The Big Chief gave 24 bhp at 3,000rpm, an 83 mm bore and a 113 mm stroke. All Indian bikes were of sturdy design with duplex frames and leaf spring forks on the twins and four. Similar to many other American bikes they are recognisable by their big petrol tanks, pan saddles and twist grips.This 1924 Indian Big Chief is in outstanding original condition throughout and underwent a complete restoration in 1983 having been purchased by the current owner from the famous 'Parker Collection' in 1982. It also comes with its fine matching Dusting sidecar.
