An Important Sevres dinner plate, from a service commissioned by Prince Napoleon 1856, French date code for 1854 The center with a dionysiac scene in the Pompeian manner, with a leaping leopard above a marble slab, on which stands various ancient drinking vessels, including a horn, a gold kylix, and a silver kantharos, alongside a branch of fruiting vine, a thyrsus with two blue ribbons further emphasising the dianysiac theme; all set on a Pompeian Red ground, within elaborate borders including a honeysuckle motif in gold with four white flower motifs.Crowned N mark in red for Napoleon. This service was most probably intended for the extravagant 'Pompeii House' built by Prince Napoleon in Paris. ref.
