A Pair of Russian dessert plates, after the famous Kremlin Service, made for Csar Nicholas I 1837-8 Russian Circa 1900 Unmarked, 22.5 cm diameter A Pair of Russian dessert plates, after the famous Kremlin Service, made for Csar Nicholas I 1837-8, Russian Circa 1900 Richly decorated in gold and enamels with the Russian double headed eagle surrounded by the inscription Nicholas The Emperor And Ruler Of All The Russians, within a series of enamelled flower and leaf borders on a gold ground. The Kremlin Service was commissioned by Csar Nicholas I for the re-furbished Kremlin in 1837-8, and made at the Imperial Factory. The design is taken from a Kremlin treasure, the coronation plate for Czar Alexei Mikhailovich (1645-76), and the original is still held in the Kremlin.
