A silver plate mounted presentation emu egg ink well of Melbourne relevance, the ovoid body with applied fern leaves to either end centred by a shield cartouche inscribed 'Presented to Mr James Ewins / for His Services / in Connection with the / Establishment of the / Burnley Street Railway station / East Richmond / 18th Nov, 1880' beneath a domed lidded inkwell surmounted by a finial cast in the form of an emu raised on a turned wooden base and an ebonised circular plinth;, together with a glass dome the emu egg 22 cm high from the turned base.
